Each year, we organise several social dances. These dances are a great way to meet lots of new people, and to put into practice what you have learnt during classes! Please contact our secretary if you need any more information.
Witham and District Caledonian Society is dancing!
Our weekly classes in the Labour Hall in Witham have been well attended. At the start of each month, Fiona Richards has inspired us to learn more and polish our technique. We have welcomed several new dancers since the start of the year and those who are new to Scottish Country Dancing are getting to grips with the formations and the dances. Our final class indoors is on the 13th of May. Our Garden Dances commence on the 3rd of June.
Our Autumn Tea Dance on the 2nd of November 2025 was a great success with a good number of enthusiastic dancers from far and wide. Mac and Mary McLean had devised a fun programme and it proved to be very popular.
Our Burns Supper was held on the 24th of January 2026 in the British Legion Hall in Witham. We had a very good turnout of eager guests and the new formula worked very well. Fiona Hunt performed a dramatic recitation of To a Haggis and we enjoyed a selection of song and verse after the meal when Billy spoke and proposed the Toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns. Sue Last was in her element leading almost all of the guests through a bounty of easy ceilidh dances.
The Spring Charity Tea Dance went with a swing! We had good numbers attending and we were able to raise in excess of £300 to donate to Farleigh Hospice. Thank you to all who joined in the fun.
The Essex Ball took place on the 26th of April and was enjoyed by some 68 dancers including a lively contingent from Suffolk. S.E. Essex have kept the spirit alive since 2022 and a new group of leaders are engaged in planning the next Ball in 2027
Our next event is The Summer Dance on Sunday the 7th of June in the afternoon. It will be held in the British Legion Memorial Hall from 3:00 pm until 6:30 pm, see poster below. Cribs can be downloaded here.
